JazzMN Big Band 2008-09 Concert Series

JazzMN is pleased to announce its 2008-2009 Concert Series.

All Concerts presented at 7:30 pm at Hopkins High School Performing Arts Center.

October 18th, 2008 The Latin Side of Conrad Herwig

Extraordinary trombonist Conrad Herwig added a new flavor to jazz classics with his Grammy-nominated Another Kind of Blue: The Latin Side of Miles Davis and Que Viva Coltrane. Combine that creativity with his big band roots performing iwth Clark Terry, Buddy Rich, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Mel Lewis, and you get an incredible show to kick off JazzMN's 10th season.

December 20th, 2008 A JazzMN Christmas

A Christmas concert like no other! JazzMN pulls out a wealth of Christmas favorites, many of them arranged by Twin Cities musicians, with great vocals to put you in the holiday spirit.

February 14th, 2009 Nicholas Payton's Gumbo Nouveau

Trumpeter Nicholas Payton has truly emerged as a jazz lion. His swinging and fiery performances reflect his New Orleans roots along with influences by jazz greats Freddie Hubbard and Wynton Marsalis. The jazz gumbo on this night will be tasting mighty fine!

April 4th, 2009 Ken Peplowski: Benny Goodman Protégé

Life is tough when you have mentors like Benny Goodman and Sonny Stitt, but someone has to do it. Whether he's beboppin' on the clarinet or burning on the tenor, Ken Peplowski knows how to bring the house down. A fitting closer for a great season!
