Bob Mintzer will be featured with the JazzMn Big Band on Saturday, January
31st, with the JazzMn Big Band at 7:30 pm at Benson Great Hall, Bethel
College.

Bob Mintzer joins the JazzMn Big Band Saturday, January 31st at 7:30 p.m.
at Benson Great Hall, on the campus of Bethel College.
Mintzer received
eight Grammy nominations in recognition of his talents in the Jazz,
Pop, Orchestra, Latin, and World Music genres. In 2002, he received
a Grammy award for the Bob Mintzer Big Band recording Homage to Count
Basie.
Mintzer's illustrious
career includes over 300 recordings with legendary musicians/groups
such as Buddy Rich, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band, Louie Bellson, Jaco
Pastorius, Take Six, Bobby McFerrin, Randy Brecker, Diana Ross, Tito
Puente, and the New York Philharmonic. Mintzer is also a long-time member
of the contemporary jazz group, the Yellowjackets. The band has received
numerous Grammy nominations and is a regular participant at major jazz
festivals throughout the world.
A prolific composer,
Mintzer has numerous compositions and arrangements for big band, small
group, saxophone quartet, as well as saxophone etude and method books.
In choosing his program for the JazzMn concert, Mintzer commented, "I
generally like to do a variety of tunes that include something for everyone.
People of all ages should have a connection with the program."
For the January
31st show, the JazzMn Big Band will be featuring the following outstanding
Twin Cities musicians: Brian Grivna, Pete Whitman, Dave Karr, Clay Pufahl
and Kathy Jensen (saxes); Mike Nelson, Dave Graf, Ethan Freier and Wade
Clark (trombones); Bob Hallgrimson, Bernie Edstrom, Dave Jensen and
Steve Wagner (trumpets); Dave Singley (guitar); Lee Blaske (piano);
Terry Burns (bass); Joe Pulice (drums); and Dave Hagedorn (vibes/percussion)
and Sue Tucker (vocals).
